A Grandmother Weeps

A Grandmother Weeps

A grandmother weeps for the grandson she never got to hold as an infant.
Her heart isn’t whole; for she weeps for the missing piece that belongs to the grandson she never got to meet.
Sleepless nights, she has many, wondering about that grandson
The days pass by and emptiness is felt with tears in her eyes
She prays some day she’ll give her grandson a tight hug
Today she weeps for the grandson she never got to rock to sleep
A grandson she prayed for from the heavens above
When young boys play outside, full of laughter, in the summer night
She is left wondering, if her grandson is laughing and enjoying the night

Questions run through her mind
What does he look like?
How tall is he by now?
What are some of the things he likes to do?

A grandmother weeps as the years pass by, knowing today is his birthday
In her heart she makes a wish and hopes all his wishes come true
She whispers in her sleep, Happy Birthday Grandson of mine
A grandmother weeps wondering if her grandson thinks of her
She wonders, if his heart has a missing piece or is it whole
A grandmother weeps wondering if he knows her at all

Today her grandson is twenty-two
Today she prays and hopes, that today will be the day, and she’ll feel her grandson’s arms wrap around her with a tight hug hello.
Today she hopes the missing piece of her heart will become whole
Once again she’s left praying for her grandson she knows is out there

A grandmother weeps for a grandson she wants to know
Each time she looks into her son’s eyes, she wonders about her grandson
When the day turns to darkness and silence fills the air, her eyes fills with tears

And in her dreams, an infant is waiting to be held, by his grandmother
That will rock him, gently to sleep with a smoothing lullaby.
Only to find this infant has grown into a man and doesn’t know this weeping grandmother at all
A weeping grandmother wonders now if her grandson has children of his own
Will she not only weep for the grandson she never got to hold, but weep for her great grandchildren as well?
A grandmother is left weeping with a picture she holds of a grandson she never got to meet.
